The photoshop experiment

The photoshop experiment is a blog maintained by Cory Godbey, a 23 year old illustrator. What is it about? well, as you know, it’s a blog, and it has a few posts explaining his workflow in photoshop to create his illustrations. I say it’s pretty cool, if you ask me.

I suggest you also visit his main blog, light night rains, where you’ll find more examples of his work.

Coloring comics

Steve Hamaker, who is coloring the new Bone color editions (link), has posted a couple of entries in his blog about how to color comics in photoshop.

His first entry, coloring with photoshop is a set of images showing the different steps from lineart to finished colored piece. He offers no explanations about each step, but it’s a nice start to see what he does to color the comics.

His second entry, more coloring stuff, though short, gives a few details of what he does to prepare the coloring in photoshop.

The comments of both entries offer some nice tips, too. I suggest you read them.

Painting the portrait of a woman

I found an animated gif that shows the process of painting a woman’s portrait. It shows almost every step, so it is a very nice example if you’re curious on how to create one. I don’t know who the author is although at the end of the animation appears the following url: (warning: it has popups)freedraw.com.ne.kr, however I didn’t find this gif in that site.

Anyway, the link to the gif is: http://img.lj.com.ua/denis7/drawgirl.gif it might be a while until it loads, it’s about 1 MB, I also found the link at photoshoptips.net.

Illustration how-to

Rick Lovell’s site has an extensive gallery of illustrations. Quite cool

Even better though, he’s also got a flickr account, where he’s got several of his illustrations, paintings and sketches. The best of it all is the couple of how-tos he put there. Worth checking it, and click on the photos one by one, so you read his comments.
